Lets fly south

Piecing and quilting has been checked off the list for my lets fly south quilt. All that’s left to do is the binding.

Binding is probably my most loved and most hated part of the process. I just want it to be completed but hand sewing the binding is a relaxing time for me. No fighting with my sewing machine or lining up seams.

So close πŸ™‚

And then I have time to work on other in progress works.

Happy quilting everyone πŸ™‚

Just a couple things

I finally finished my newest quilt top. I stay finally when it really only took about a week. The redundancy of the block sewing made me want to pull my hair out a little. Something that only took 10 minutes seemed to drag on for what seemed like days. I almost put it away for another time and started a different quilt.

The problem with that being I’m one of those people who work through until it’s done. If I would have put it away it quite literally would have haunted my nightmares. But now it’s all over! Well, I guess not ALL over. But block making and piecing the top together is over. πŸ™‚ Maybe, I’m thinking about adding a border to it. Sadly I literally have no fabric left that I used for the top though so I would have to make a trip to the store and find something to work with all the colors.

Hmmmm… Well enough thinking about that. There is a quilt show currently going on in my town, this excites me to no end. And today is the day when mine and my boyfriends schedules finally mesh up and we can go! I’m so glad my boyfriend supports my obsession πŸ™‚ I know he would rather do anything else than go to a quilt show.

I’m planning my next quilt, which has already been started.Β I have 2 finished quilt tops and no batting so I just keep moving until I have the means to buy some.

Well, off to get ready, little one has grown out of all her clothes and I did mention the quilt show πŸ˜‰

Happy quilting everybody.

Finally Finished, Time to Start Again? :)

I’m finally finished with my houndstooth quilt! It’s a little bitter sweet, but I love how it looks.

The red fabric was my whole inspiration for this quilt. I just completely love how rich and vibrant it is without being fire engine.

I’m also working on another quilt, it’s never ending, and I’m okay with that.

Here is a preview.

I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. Every block is different, which is a big change for me. I wasnt exactly sure how I felt about it at first but I’m just gonna dive into head first and whatever happens happens.

So many colors and prints. I’m using the Moda Color Theory by V and Co accompanied by Kona Cotton by Robert Kaufman sandcastle. It’s giving a very interesting look, if you can’t notice there is a gradual darkening of the “geese” as they reach the outer edges.

It’s been pretty exciting also because my family has been able to get involved in the creation of these blocks. Instead of me planning out a quilt start to finish I’m been letting them choose fabric that they like and then I simply sew them together.

We’ve also created this game called “grab bag” which means that we put all the strips into a bag and then without looking we just grab four colors out. This makes for some interesting blocks but they still match, and thats the glory of fabric collections.

Of course I’ll keep everyone updated as this quilt progresses.

My life has been crazy since class started, trying to smash 16 weeks of schooling into 8 is quite the challenge. But so far it isn’t too bad. My history and geology is pretty fun and laid back, I have the same teacher for both and he is so wise and insightful and a little bit crazy. He keeps things interesting and keeps people thinking.

My Human Disease class is another story, it is interesting, it’s actually a class I was very much looking forward to taking. But it’s a class that you have to be on your A game. Notes span at least 8 pages long per class period and there is a test everyday you walk through the door. But that’s all worth it because it is so interesting and informative, and isn’t that why we go to college in the first place? it might kick my butt a little but at least I’m learning something.

Other than that there isn’t really too much going on in my life, just day to day stuff. My daughter fell asleep today cuddling with a green monkey, it was one of the cutest things I have seen. Although I may be a little biased.

Anyways, I think I’ve rambled quite enough for one blog post. Happy quilting everyone πŸ™‚

Guess who got fluff mail!!!

So as I’m sure you gathered from the title, I recieved some fluff mail today! It was probably the most exciting part of my day, which isn’t really saying much since I just spent 8 hours studying contagious diseases and geography. As I drove up to my house there it was hanging on the side of the mail box. I literally broke out into a happy dance accompanied by some off key singing.

It came so quickly too, it only shipped out 2 or 3 days ago. So thank you so much CraftsyΒ you’re the best and you made this chick very very happy.

I pulled out some trusty scissors and let the magic happen.

So now i haveΒ almost all the fabric I need for my next 3 quilts. And then I plan on taking a break from cover quilts and moving to something else. I haven’t decided exactly what yet, but it will be some kind of quilty fun.

Sorry for the pointless blog post, I just had to share my excitement.

Happy quilting everyone! πŸ™‚

Sew much sewing… Sew little time

With the start of classes I haven’t really had much time to sew. This breaks my heart a little bit but hopefully after I fall into a groove and a schedule it will get easier. Want to know one of the hardest things to do mentally for me? Waking up at 6 AM in the Summer time.

I have managed to finish a quilt top and back that I’ve been working on. I just don’t have enough batting to get to the actual quilting stage.

Sorry that its so horribly wrinkled. It’s been in storage for a bit.

I’ve also started another quilt that I believe will be small enough to use the batting that I already have stashed away.

I just love the color that this quilt is going to be and I’m really excited to see the finished product. I guess I’m always excited for the big finish.

I’ve got a couple other projects in mind. My brain works at warp speed while my fingers can only go so fast.

Another exciting thing is my fabric that I ordered from craftsy has finally shipped! I can hardly wait for it to arrive. It’s a close 2 hour drive away now!! Β That’s the beginning of 3 other projects.

A little side note, my boyfriend believes I should probably attend a quilters anonymous. He may be correct.

And now i must go get ready for classes, and paper writing, all of that fun stuff. So I hope you all have a wonderful day and happy quilting and happy blogging. πŸ™‚

Two final notes:

Isn’t she just precious? And yes that is a huge bald spot on the side of her head. We are trying out this new style called the reverse old man.

And secondly, as always. Click the link below. Make my day, make someone elses day. Make it a great day πŸ™‚

Oh duhh…

Have you ever had one of those moments where you are doing something only to realize you completely over thought it and made it about a million times more difficult then it needed to be. Come on, don’t be bashful. Raise your hand, I know you have. I definitely made piecing the back of my quilt way more difficult than it should have been. I just had to walk away for awhile.

It’s been a long day in general. Summer classes started today, and I’m one of those nerds who love to go to school. I would make a profession from attending college if I could. But with a teething not sleeping demanding grump of a baby it was less than desirable today.

Coffee may be one of my greatest joys on the daily, but today it’s all that’s keeping me sane. I count down the seconds until I can belly flop onto my bed. It just sounds like the best heaven there ever was.

Maybe I’ll work on a different project. Maybe I’ll grab baby for a cuddle nap session. We’ll see.

Happy quilting everyone. Hope your day is less face palm and more thumbs up than mine.
